Former super-middleweight world champion, Carl Froch, has kept up his criticism of his one-time former promotional stablemate Tyson Fury.
Froch is unimpressed with the WBC world heavyweight champion Fury, who is all but set, according to promoter Frank Warren to face former UFC heavyweight champion Francis Ngannou. Ngannou, to the author’s knowledge, has no boxing experience in either professional or amateur codes of the sport.
Following his victory over Derek Chisora last December, Fury has seen negotiations with unified world heavyweight champion Oleksandr Usyk collapse for a proposed April 29 encounter. Fury decided he wanted to negotiate publicly with Usyk and offered to most commentators and industry figures loaded terms heavily in his favour, which Usyk accepted. Terms ultimately could not be agreed upon due to financial disagreements regarding any prospective rematches with purse splits unable to be agreed upon. Usyk is scheduled to face his mandatory challenger, Daniel Dubois, in Poland on August 26.
Furthermore, Fury sent an offer to face British rival and two-time former unified world heavyweight champion Anthony Joshua. Joshua ultimately rejected the proposal point blank and did not even enter any provisional discussions with Fury, Frank Warren or Top Rank, who care for Fury’s promotional interest in the United States. Joshua will face Dillian Whyte in a rematch following their firefight in December 2015 on August 12 as Joshua continues his collision course with his long-term rival, Deontay Wilder.
Froch, who spoke to bettingsites.co.uk, erupted at the prospect of Fury facing Ngannou. This follows Froch, who said last week, believing that Fury already has one eye on retirement.
“Frank Warren’s just announced Tyson Fury will fight Francis Ngannou, who is an MMA fighter, so it’s another crossover fight – a load of rubbish. He’s on about, ‘the game’s changed; it’s going to change the whole sport’—an absolute load of sh!t. I don’t like swearing, but it’s a load of shit. We don’t want to see that fight. We want to see Tyson Fury in there with Usyk.”
Froch, however, when asked about any prospect of Fury facing Joshua, is still backing Fury to be victorious if the pair ever do agree to meet one another.
“They’re not giving Anthony Joshua a chance against Fury. I think it’s fair because he had back-to-back defeats to Usyk, and he’s looking like a man that’s fighting with no confidence. He doesn’t come forward anymore. He’s on his back foot, defensive first, and gasses after 8-9 rounds. I don’t think he’s got the engine,” Froch said.
